The American tenor AJ Glueckert made his debut at the Met in New York in 2016/17, singing Erik in The Flying Dutchman, the same season he joined the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt, where he recently enjoyed great success in the title role of a new production of Zemlinsky's George the Dreamer. During the 2025/26 season he sings Bob Boles in Peter Grimes, Shuisky and Moon in new productions of Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov and Fortner's Bluthochzeit / Blood Wedding, Don José in Carmen and Walter in Weinberg's The (female) Passenger. Last season he sang two new roles magnificently: Alwa and Heurtal in new productions of Berg's Lulu and Magnard's Guercœur and repeated his portrayal of Skuratov in Janáček's From the House of the Dead. He enjoyed great success with the Emperor in Die Frau ohne Schatten at Cologne Opera and in Amsterdam. Other recent roles in Frankfurt included Walther von Stolzing (role debut) - a role he sang at the Müpa in Budapest - in a new production of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and the title role in Lohengrin, which he sang for the first time at the Tirol Festival in Erl, Lenski in Eugene Onegin, The Assistant / Man with a Donkey in a wonderful Weill / Orff The Tsar wants his Photograph Taken / Clever Woman double bill, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly and he sang in Bruckner's Te Deum, in Sebastian Weigle's farewell Museums Concert. He repeated his wonderful portrayals of Lyonel and Herodes in Flotow's Martha (get the CD! - OehmsClassics) and Strauss' Salome. Other roles in Frankfurt included Edrisi (Szymanowski's Król Roger), Graf Vaudémont (Iolanta), Flamand (Capriccio), Froh (Das Rheingold) and Erik. He made his European debut in Frankfurt in 2014/15, singing the Prince in Rusalka, sang the Scarlet Coloured Beast in Langaard's Antichrist at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Tenor / Bacchus (Ariadne auf Naxos) and the title role in Oedipus Rex at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale in Florence, where he returned for Mephistopheles in Busoni's Doctor Faust, Bacchus in Glyndebourne and at the Opera Theatre of St. Louis and Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) at Santa Fe Opera, where he was a member of their Young Artists Program. He enjoys close ties to San Francisco Opera, as a former Adler Fellow and member of their Merola Opera Program. He has also sung at Pittsburgh Opera, Minnesota Opera and Opera Philadelphia. He graduated from the Conservatory of Music in San Francisco and is a two time winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions regional competition.
