Maren Favela

Maren Favela is back at Oper Frankfurt, where she has appeared regularly since her time in the Opera Studio for roles including Giannetta (Le cantatrici villane), Popelka (Martinů’s Komödie auf der Brücke / Comedy on a Bridge), Echo (Ariadne auf Naxos), Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), Cephisa (Telemann’s Orpheus) and Amore / Tibrino (Cesti’s L’Orontea - available on CD - OehmsClassics) to sing an Apprentice in this new production of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. She joined the ensemble at Theater Basel for the 2016/17 season, during which roles included Kasturbai (Glass’ Satyagraha), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Carrie (Carousel) and Curra (La forza del destino). Other engagements have included 2nd Naked Woman (Moses und Aron) at the Opéra National de Paris and Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte) in Limoges. She made her American debut singing Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra under Edo de Waart. She also sang Mercédès in Carmen with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Maren Favela has also appeared at the Opera de Oviedo, the Lucca Opera Festival and Handel Festival in Karlsruhe. She was born in Mexico City, grew up in Germany and studied with Cheryl Studer and then Hedwig Fassbender at the HfMDK in Frankfurt. She was a prize winner at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris’ 2015 Les Mozart de l’Opera competition. She makes her debut in Antwerp next year singing Kasturbai in Phillip Glass’ Saryagraha.
