Ilya Silchuk

The young baritone Ilya Silchuk is making his debut at Oper Frankfurt, stepping in at very short notice to sing Tadeusz in the final performance this season of Weinberg's The (female) Passenger. He joined the ensemble at the Deutsch National Theater in Weimar last season, where roles have included Tadeusz, Dandini (La Cenerentola), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Baron Douphol (La Traviata) and Marco (Gianni Scicchi) . Before going to Weimar he was a member of the Semper Oper in Dresden's ensemble, after spending time in their youth ensemble, where roles included Schaunard (La Bohème), Papageno, Kilian (Der Freischütz), Kuligin (Katja Kabanowa) and Herrmann / Schlemil (The Tales of Hoffmann). He made his debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2024, singing 1st Gravedigger in Thomas' Hamlet and sang the title role in Le nozze di Figaro in PAMY Mediaproduktion (Dornach / Switzerland) in 2021. Ilya Silchuk has won prizes at many international singing competitions and scholarships, including one from Bayreuth and the Ad Infinitum Foundation in Lübeck. Born in Nischni Novgorod, Russia, he studied acting at the Boris Schtschukin University for Theatre in Moscow before joining the Wachtangow Theater and Theater for Film Actors there. Jörg Hempel taught him so sing at the University for Music in Dresden from 2018 - 2024.
