This young Australian-Chinese artist, making his debut at Oper Frankfurt singing Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, is one of the most sought-after lyric tenors of his generation. Born in Harbin/China he studied at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and Queensland Conservatorium of Music in Australia and was a member of the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. Recent highlights have included Macduff (Macbeth) at Washington National Opera, Roméo (Roméo et Juliette) at the Semperoper in Dresden, Pinkerton and Rodolfo (La bohème) at Canadian Opera and the Teatro del Maggio Musicale in Florence, Alfredo (La traviata) at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples and the Tirol Festival in Erl, Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) at Houston Grand Opera, the title role in Les contes d'Hoffmann at Palm Beach Opera and an Italian Singer (Der Rosenkavalier) at the Met. He's a popular guest at other leading opera houses including Welsh National Opera, Zurich Opera and Seattle Opera. Other engagements this season include the world premiere of Huang Ruo's The Monkey King at San Francisco Opera, Rodolfo and the Duke (Rigoletto) at Opera Australia in Sydney, Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor) at the Tirol Festival in Erl, Ismaele (Nabucco) at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Rodolfo at the Teatro di San Carlo, Alfredo at the Met and Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi) at the Vienna State Opera. Kang Wang reached the finals of the 2017 Cardiff Singer of the World competition.
