Bo Skovhus is making his debut at Oper Frankfurt, singing the Protector in this new production of  Written on Skin. Born in Denmark, this baritone built up a large and varied repertoire during the course of his international career, including Beckmesser (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Titus in Michael Jarrell's Berenice, Mandryka (Arabella), Dr. Schön (Lulu), Šiškov (From the House of the Dead), Jean-Charles in Henze's The Raft of Medusa and the title roles in Eugene Onegin, Reimann's Lear, Krenek's Karl V and Wozzeck. He also sang Count Alba in Jost's Egmont and Ryuji in Henze's The Betrayed Sea and appeared at theatres including the Opéra national de Paris, the Semperoper in Dresden, the Vienna, Berlin, Munich and Hamburg state operas, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Zurich Opera, the Wagner Days Festival in Budapest and the Salzburg and Edinburgh festivals, working closely with conductors including Philippe Jordan, Daniel Barenboim, Christian Thielemann, Simone Young, Christoph Eschenbach and Zubin Mehta. Bo Skovhus is also passionate about Lieder singing, especially Mahler, Scandinavian composers, Frank Martin's Jedermann Monologues and Zemlinsky's Lyric Symphony. Many of his roles, Lieder and concert repertoire are available on recordings. He studied at the Music Institute in Aarhus, the Royal Opera Academy in Copenhagen and in New York . He was made Austrian Kammersänger in 1997 and in Bavaria, in 2022.
