This British tenor is making his debut at Oper Frankfurt, singing the title role in this new production of Mitridate, Re di Ponto. Engagements last season included Peter Quint (The Turn of the Screw) at English National Opera, Josef K. in Gottfried von Einem's The Trial at the Theater an der Wien, Florestan (Fidelio) at Garsington Opera and Mitridate at the Hamburg State Opera. Other recent engagements included Antonio in Thomas Adès’ The Tempest at La Scala Milan and the title role in Handel's Belshazzar at theTheater an der Wien, a role you can hear him singing again later this season at the Komische Oper Berlin. He's also been heard at Covent Garden, Welsh National Opera, in Glyndebourne, Oslo, the Salzburg, Beijing and Edinburgh festivals and the Biennale in Venice. Concert work has included appearances with the London Symphony Orchestra, English Concert, the Gabrieli Consort, London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Academy of Ancient Music, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra, Boston Philharmonic and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra under conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Harry Bicket and Paul McCreesh. He has performed at the BBC Proms and given recitals at the Aldeburgh and Oxford Lieder festivals and the Wigmore Hall in London. He's also passionate about contemporary music and has sung works by Hans Werne Henze, Harrison Birtwistle, Cecilia McDowell, George Benjamin, Elliott Carter and Emily Hall. Robert Murray graduated from Covent Garden's Jette Parker Young Artist Programme and teaches at the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana in Lugano and the Royal College of Music in London.
