Ukrainian bass Alexander Tsymbalyuk is making his debut at Oper Frankfurt singing the title role in this new production of Boris Godunov, a role he has sung at houses including the Opéra national de Paris. Earlier this season he sang in the Verdi Requiem, conducted by Giedrė Šlekytė,in Norway's Oscarborg Castle; other recent engagements included Don Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia) at the Staatsoper in Berlin, Sparafucile (Rigoletto) at the Opéra National de Paris, Gremin (Eugen Onegin) at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and Shostakovich's Song of the Forests with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo. His repertoire includes Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Timur (Turandot), Fasolt (Das Rheingold), Fafner (Das Rheingold, Siegfried), Hunding (Die Walküre), Ferrando (Il trovatore), Fiesco (Simon Boccanegra), Lodovico (Otello), Banco (Macbeth), The Commendatore (Don Giovanni), Ramfis / King (Aida), King René (Iolanta), Titurel (Parsifal), the Grand Inquisitor(Don Carlo), Sir Giorgio (I puritani), Graf Rodolfo (La sonnambula) and Prince Gudal (The Demon). He has appeared at houses including the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, La Scala Milan, Operaen in Copenhagen, the Opéra de Dijon, Covent Garden, Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, Grand Théâtre du Luxembourg, Teatro Real in Madrid, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Gran Teatre di Liceu in Barcelona, New National Theatre in Tokyo, the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia and Grand Théâtre de Provence in Aix-en-Provence. He was a member of the Opera Studio then Ensemble at the Hamburg State Opera, who named him a Kammersänger in 2024. He studied at the Conservatoire in Odessa and won prizes at competitions, including the 2006 Elena Obraztsova International Competition in Moscow, Italy's Riccardo Zandonai Competition and the 2007 International Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow.
