Patrick Grahl was born in Leipzig, where he sang in the Thomanerchore (choir) and studied at the local University for Music. Roles have included Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Jaquino (Fidelio) with the Insula Orchestra under Laurence Equilbey and the Gstaad Festival Orchestra under Jaap van Zweden, in Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Marvão Festival and roles at the Opéra National de Lyon, in Helsinki and Budapest. He's been much sought-after for concert and oratorio work since winning 1st prize at Leipzig's international Johann Sebastian Bach Competition, and his work is well documented on many CDs and radio recordings. He has appeared with orchestras including the Leipzig Gewandhausorchester, the Dresden Philharmonic, the NDR Radio Philharmonic, the Gürzenich Orchester in Cologne, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI di Torino and the London Symphony Orchestra under conductors including Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Sir Simon Rattle, Vladimir Jurowski, Daniele Gatti, Zubin Mehta, Peter Schreier, Manfred Honeck, Hans-Christoph Rademann, Ton Koopman, Philippe Herreweghe, Christoph Poppen, Omer Meir Wellber and Stefano Montanari. Patrick Grahl is passionate about chamber music and singing Lieder. You can buy his recording of Dichterliebe (CAvi); which was followed in 2024 by Rondeau Production's recording: Das ferne Lied with Klara Hornig which includes works by Wilhelm Weismann and Rudolf Wagner-Régeny which have never been recorded before. He started teaching at the Dresden and Leipzig universities of music in 2024/25.
