Rafał Tomkiewicz is back at Oper Frankfurt, where he made his debut last season singing Unulfo in Rodelinda, to sing Nireno in this revival of Giulio Cesare in Egitto. He recently made house and role debuts including Oberon in Britten's A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Oper Graz, La Virtù in Vivaldi's La Senna festeggiante at the Opéra royal du château de Versailles, Farnace in Mozart's Mitridate, re di Ponto) at Opera Rara in Kraków and he returned to the Handel festivals in Karlsruhe (Siroe) and Halle (Amadigi di Gaula), where he sang roles including Cleofe (La Resurrezione) and Idilberto (Lotario, both available on CD). Other engagements have taken him to the Meiningen Staatstheater, the Musiktheater an der Wien, the National Opera in Sofia, Teatro Comunale di Bolzano, the »Maria Callas« Olympia Music Theatre in Athens, the Styriate in Graz and Göttingen Handel Festival. His wide and varied repertoire includes the title roles in Eötvös‘ Radames and Cavalli's Giasone, Tamerlano in Vivaldi's Bajazet and Handel's Bertarido (Rodelinda), Tolomeo (Giulio Cesare) and Anastasio (Giustino). Concert work has included Bach's Johannespassion, Handel's Messiah and Orff's Carmina Burana in the Musikverein in Vienna, the Filharmonia Narodowa im Warsaw and Opéra royal du château de Versailles with the Irish National Symphony Orchestra, Capella Cracoviensis, the Beethoven Orchestra in Bonn and L’Arpeggiata under Christina Pluhar. Prizes have included 1st prize at the Krystyna Jamroz Singing Competition and the special prize for young talented artists at the Baroque Competition in Posen. He studied at the Chopin Conservatoire in Warsaw, where he was a member of the National Opera's Opera Studio.
