Yuko Tsuchiya

The internationally sought-after Japanese soprano Yuko Tsuchiya is making her debut at Oper Frankfurt this evening, stepping in to sing Venus in our new productionTannhäuser. During 2022 she enjoyed great success singing the title role in Puccini's Turandot under Daniele Abbado at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago and, a year later, at the Tokyo Nikikai Opera Foundation (in a production from the Grand Théâtre de Genève), where she returned in 2024 to  sing Venus (role debut) in a Keith Warner production conducted by Axel Kober.  Her repertoire includes Lady Macbeth (Macbeth), Elsa (Lohengrin), Leonore (Fidelio), the Dyer's Wife (Die Frau ohne Schatten) and Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana). She recently sang Madame Euterpova in Menotti's Help, Help, the Globolinks! at the Musashino Academia Musicae in Tokyo.  She won prizes at leading singing competitions around the world, including the Maria Malibran International Competition, the International Competition in San Colombano and the International “City of Alessandria” Music Competition. She studied at the Musashino Academia Musicae in Tokyo and Conservatorio di Musica Arrigo Boito in Parma before spending time with the Suntory Hall Opera Academy's Nikikai Opera Studio, the Puccini Festival Academy,  Mascagni Academy and gained invaluable experience taking part in masterclasses run by Elena Obraztsova, Lelio Capilupi, Giuliana Panza, Diego Crovetti and Antonella D’Amico.
