The young soprano Shelén Hughes, who grew up in Cochabamba (Bolivia) and embarked on a career as a folk singer and dancer before taking up classical music, is making her debut at Oper Frankfurt, singing Morgana in this new production of Handel's Alcina. A graduate of the Juilliard and Manhattan schools of music, she sang Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) at the Teatro Nacional de Chile, Servilia (La clemenza di Tito) at the Juilliard School and Private Sonia Gonzales (An American Soldier) at the Perelman Performing Arts Center in New York, made her debut at the Carnegie Hall in 2019 and the New York Festival of Song in 2022 and won prizes at renowned international singing competitions including the George and Nora London Foundation Competition, the Opera Index Vocal Competition and Gerda Lissner Zarzuela Competition. She also reached the semi-finals of the 2024 Concours de Genève and 2023 Concurso Internacional de Canto Alfredo Kraus and recently made her debut with the Cleveland Orchestra. She also works hard for social projects and founded the non-profit making »Voices for Bolivia« Organistion.
