Marigona Qerkezi is appearing at Oper Frankfurt for the first time, singing the title role in Norma. She recently enjoyed great success with Leonora (Il trovatore) at the Teatro Regio in Parma, Abigaille (Nabucco) at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and Savonlinna Opera Festival and Manon Lescaut at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari. She sang Aida at Poland's national theatre in Warsaw, Norma at Palm Beach Opera, Elvira (Ernani) at Theater Sankt Gallen, Lucrezia Contarini (I due Foscari) at the Teatro comunale in Modena, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa and in Piacenza, Mathilde (Guillaume Tell) in Brescia, Cremona and Como, Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) at the New National Theatre in Tokyo, Madame Cortese (Il viaggio a Reims) at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro and Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Gulnara in Verdi's Il corsaro in Genoa and Anna Bolena at the National Opera in Vilnius. She made her debuts in Italy, with Lucia di Lammermoor at the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari, which she also sang in Bari and at the Teatro nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, and Spain, with Elvira in Oviedo. This Kosovarian soprano grew up in Croatia and studied the flute and singing at the University of Arts in Pristina. She won many prizes and scholarships, including the Leyla Gencer and Magda Olivero singing competitions. Plans including returning to Cagliari for Aida, where she also sang Mimì in La bohème, and Lady Macbeth at the Teatro Municipal in São Paulo, where she has sung Abigaille.
