Josh Lovell
The Canadian tenor Josh Lovell rounded off his studies at the Lyric Opera of Chicago's Ryan Opera Center and took part in the Salzburg Festival's Young Singers Project. He won many prizes, including the Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition in Vienna, and was a member of the Vienna State Opera's ensemble from 2019-2024, during which time roles included Telemaco (Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria), Lurcanio (Ariodante), Arturo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Ernesto (Don Pasquale), Fenton (Falstaff), Andres (Wozzeck) und Lysander (A Midsummer Night’s Dream). Recent concert work has included Rossini's Petite messe solennelle at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Cimarosa's L’Olimpiade at the Royal Opera in Versailles. He has also performed at places including Oper Leipzig, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Opéra national de Paris, Teatro alla Scala in Milan and Glyndebourne. He sang an Italian Singer (Der Rosenkavalier) and Almaviva (Il barbiere di Siviglia) at the Bayerischen Staatsoper in Munich in 2021, an Italian Singer in Strauss' Capriccio at the 2024 Salzburg Festival and Ferrando (Così fan tutte) at the Edinburgh Festival. Plans this season include his debuts at Oper Frankfurt, singing Grimoaldo in Rodelinda, and the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, as Lindoro in L’italiana in Algeri, Jupiter/Apollo (Semele) at Atlanta Opera and his return to La Scala Milan for Florian Leopold Gassmann's L’opera seria.
