Jan Ickert
cello
Jan Ickert studied at Dr. Hoch's Conservatoire in Frankfurt before going to the universities for music in Wuppertal, Berlin and Frankfurt to work with professors Susanne Müller-Hornbach, Andreas Greger and Michael Sanderling, and then Joseph Schwab. He gained further experience attending many masterclasses. He founded the Chagall Quartet Berlin in 2002, which won prizes at international competitions and appeared at the Mecklenburg Vorpommern Festival, the Mozartfest Würzburg and the Rheingau Music Festival. He's a much sought-after soloist, chamber and orchestral musician at home and abroad, appearing with orchestras including the Erfurt Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchester der Klangverwaltung in Munich, the Spira Mirabilis and Cologne chamber orchestras, Kremerata Baltica under Gidon Kremer and he held the post of solo cellist with the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra in Essen and Bavarian Chamber Philharmonic. He also plays regularly with the hr-Sinfonieorchester, the Frankfurt Opern und Museumsorchester and the Wiesbaden State Theater Orchestra. His greatest passion is passing his experience and artistry on: he was artistic director and a professor for cello at Kronberg Academy's Emanuel Feuermann Conservatoire from 2008-18. After teaching for many years and the universities for music in Mannheim and Frankfurt he became a professor at the University for Music and the Performing Arts in Frankfurt. He teaches and gives masterclasses at home and abroad, and at the Cello Tagen Schlitz, where he has been artistic director since 2021.
