South Korean bass-baritone Chandai Park is back at Oper Frankfurt to sing Panas in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Night before Christmas, a role he sang for the first time in last season's revival. Recent engagements have included Monterone in Rigoletto at Israeli Oper and he sang his first Abimaléchs in Samson et Dalila in a new production at Oper Kiel. Future plans include Banquo in Macbeth in Biel Solothurn. During the 2023 summer festival season he sang Brander in Berlioz' La damnation de Faust at the Domstufen Festival in Erfurt. He was a member of the Komische Oper in Berlin’s Opera Studio from 2019 – 2021, where he returns regularly as a guest for roles including the title role in Le nozze di Figaro, Saretzki (Eugene Onegin), the Speaker / 2nd Armed Man (Die Zauberflöte), Ceprano (Rigoletto), Farfarello / Herold (The Love for Three Oranges) and smaller roles in La Traviata, The Rake's Progress and The Nose. He also sang 2nd Knight of the Grail in concert performances of Parsifal with the Bergen Philharmonic. After graduating from Seoul National University he gained invaluable experience taking part in masterclasses held by Kwangchol Youn, Anne Sofie von Otter, John Norris and Deborah Polaski. His many awards include prizes at the 2022 Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Veronica Dunne competitions, the 2021 Belvedere Competition and the Korean Ministry for Culture’s Grand Prix.
