Andrè Schuen's love of singing began in picturesque La Val in South Tirol, Italy, where he grew up triingual - Ladin, Italian and German - mirroring the versatility of his richly varied repertoire. A passionate cellist, he then studied singing at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Prof. Horiana Brănișteanu and Prof. Wolfgang Holzmair, after which he spent time as a member of the Ensemble at Oper Graz before embarking on an exciting international operatic and concert career.

He appears in opera at leading houses around the world including the Bavarian and Vienna state operas, Covent Garden in London, theTeatro Real de Madrid and the Aix-en-Provence, Lucerne and Salzburg festivals. This season he sings the title role in Jaromír Weinberger's Schwanda the Bagpiper at the Theater and der Wien. He also sings Wolfram in Tannhäuser, a role he sang for the first time at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin last season, at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and Sharpless and Guglielmo in Madama Butterfly and Così fan tutte at Covent Garden.

He enjoys great success in concert, and makes his debut at the Carnegie Hall in New York in May 2024 in Brahms'Requiem, which he sings this season with the WDR Sinfonieorchester under Cristian Macelaru and can also be heard singing Mahler's Kindertotenlieder with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia under Roberto González-Monjas  and Mahler's Wunderhorn-Lieder on tour with the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana. Recent highlights included appearances with the Berlin Philharmonic under Simon Rattle, the WDR Sinfonieorchester under Jukka-Pekka Saraste and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra under Andris Nelsons.

He is passionate about singing Lieder and can be heard this season with his pianist Daniel Heide in the Musikverein in Vienna, the Wigmore Hall in London, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Teatro della Zarzuela in Madrid and the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg and Hohenems. They also regularly thrill audiences in places including the Schubertiada Vilabertran, the Heidelberg Spring Festival and Rheingau Music Festival. They have appeared in recital in the USA, at the Tanglewood and Aspen Music festivals.

His recordings have been met by universal acclaim.  He has been an Exclusive Recording Artist with Deutschen Grammophon since 2021. Schubert's Die schöne Müllerin was followed in 2022 by Schwanengesang, which earned him an OPUS KLASSIK prize, and Winterreise is due for release this season. He sang Mahler's Liedern eines fahrenden Gesellen with the Konzerthausorchester and Joana Mallwitz in the Konzerthaus Berlin in December 2023 to celebrate Deutsche Grammophon's 125th Jubilee.
