Heidi Ecks trained at the University for Music and the Performing Arts in Hamburg before spending time under contract in Gießen, Mainz, Düsseldorf and Leipzig. She joined the Ensemble at Schauspiel Frankfurt in 2009/10, where she has worked with directors including Karin Henkel, Jürgen Kruse, Johanna Wehner and David Bösch. She won the Best Actor category at Hessen's 2019 Theatertagen for her portrayal of Mutter Linde in räuber.schuldenreich.
