The tenor Lukas Schmidt is back at Oper Frankfurt, where he appeared in the new production of Giordano’s Fedora this season, to sing Count Almaviva again in The Barber of Seville (Opera for Children). Born in Gelnhausen, his talent for singing was discovered while taking lessons at the University for Music and the Performing Arts in Frankfurt, where he started his vocal studies with Prof. Thomas Heyer in 2018. In 2019 he sang Don Ramiro in Rossini’s La Cenerentola at the Burg Festival in Bad Vilbel. He also enjoys a busy concert career, singing works including oratorios by Bach and Haydn and works by Mozart, Mendelssohn, Dvorak and Schumann and, most recently, Tippett’s A Child of our Time as part of events celebrating »1700 Years of Jewish Life in Germany«. Lukas Schmidt was awarded a Gutenberg singing scholarship by the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz’s Collegium Musicum and joins the Vienna State Opera’s international opera studio in 2022/23.
