Georgy Vasiliev is back at Oper Frankfurt to repeat his wonderful portrayal of Wakula in our stunning production of Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Night before Christmas. He studied being a chorus master at the Academy of Arts in Moscow before taking up vocal studies. He made his debut in 2009, as Ismaele in Nabucco, at New Opera Moscow, where he’s a member of the ensemble and appears regularly in leading roles including Wladimir Igorewitsch (Prince Igor), Don José (Carmen), Roméo (Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette), the Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto), Lenski (Eugene Onegin), Alfredo (La Traviata) and the title role in Gounod’s Faust, which he sang at Covent Garden in 2019 and in Tokyo. He also sang Vaudémont (Iolanta) at the Volksoper in Vienna last season. Other engagements in Germany since Georgy Vasiliev made his debut at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, as Edgardo, have taken him to places including Oper Stuttgart and several times to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. He has also sung at Opera Australia, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Teatro Municipal de São Paulo, Palm Beach Opera and Baltimore Opera. He also enjoys a busy concert career, recently taking part in Rachmaninov’s The Bells, Beethoven 9, Bruckner’s Te Deum und Janáček’s Glagolitic Mass. He appeared in an Open Air Gala in front of the castle in St. Petersburg in 2016, with Anna Netrebko, Ildar Abdrazakov and Olga Peretyatko.
