Roma und Sinti Philharmoniker

The Roma Philharmonic

The Roma Philharmonic is made up of professional Roma and Sinti  musicians from orchestras in Europe who join up for projects organised by the Sinti and Roma Philharmonic Association Frankfurt am Main e.V. Their artistic director  and conductor is Riccardo M Sahiti. Their aim is to keep alive the wealth of music their culture produced and the wide spread influences it had on classical music generally.  They perform works in which these influences can be heard and have commissioned many contemporary pieces which were inspired and influenced by Roma and Sinti music. They see themselves as ambassadors of their rich cultural heritage and a unifying influence between countries and cultures, without boundaries.

The Roma and Sinti Philharmonic have performed at festivals including the Menuhin Festival Gstaad, the Beethovenfest Bonn, Heidelberg Spring Festival and  Classic Nights in Brauweil, and venues such as the Philharmonie in Berlin, the Staatstheater and Kurhaus Wiesbaden,  the Alte Oper, hr-Sendesaal (Hessen Radio Studio) and Paulskirche in Frankfurt, the Nieuwe Kerk Amsterdam and Frauenkirche in Dresden. They became known to an even wider audience when they performed Roger Moreno Rathgeb's „Requiem for Auschwitz“ in many European cities and through a 54 minute long arte documentary »A Conductor and his dream – the Roma and Sinti Philharmonic« which was directed by Margarete Kreuzer and broadcast by other television companies.  They thrilled people in Frankfurt when they gave an open air concert in front of the Römer (town hall) in the autumn of 2018: part of celebrations for the opening of the restored old part of town and the »600 Years of Roma in Frankfurt« jubilee.
