Antonio Yang

Baritone

The baritone Antonio Yang (The Wanderer) is appearing at Oper Frankfurt for the first time. Since joining the ensemble at the Staatstheater in Nürnberg in 2013/14 roles have included Šiškov (role debut) in Janáček's Aus einem Totenhaus/From the House of the Dead, Wotan / Wanderer / Alberich in Wagner's Ring, Rigoletto, Méphistophélès (La Damnation de Faust) and Giorgio Germont (La traviata). Earlier on his career he was under contract at Theater Lübeck, where roles included Macbeth, Carlo Gérard (Andrea Chénier), Mandryka (Arabella), Fritz / Frank (Die tote Stadt), Orest (Elektra), Faninal (Der Rosenkavalier), Jochanaan (Salome) and Renato (Un ballo in maschera). Other recent engagements have included Carlo Borromeo in Pfitzner's Palestrina and Klingsor (a role he has also sung at Korean National Opera) in Parsifal at the Hamburg State Opera, Peter (the Father) in Hänsel und Gretel at Theater Kiel, Donner in Rheingold (in concert) with the Rundfunk-sinfonieorchester Berlin under Marek Janowski and Macbeth at the Heidenheim Opera Festival, where he returns this summer to sing Marcello in La Bohème. He studied in Korea, where he was born, Italy and Munich. He has won prizes at many competitions, including the ARD's International Music Competition and the SWR's Emmerich Smola Förderpreis.
