Bálint Szabó

Baritone

Bálint Szabó spent periods under contract to the Hungarian, Romanian and Hamburg state operas before joining the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt, which he left in 2008/09. He is now back again as guest to sing Philipp II in this revival of Don Carlo. Roles sung in Frankfurt in the past have included the King (in last season's new production of Euryanthe), Don Giovanni, Jacopo Fiesco (Simon Boccanegra), Méphistophélès (Gounod's Faust), Banco (Macbeth), Zaccaria (Nabucco), Don Profondo (Il viaggio a Reims) and Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor). Recent engagements have included the title role in Bluebeard's Castle at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, Publio (La clemenza di Tito) at the Opéra National de Paris, Strommiger (La Wally) at the Grand Théâtre in Geneva and Wurm (Luisa Miller) at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège. Other engagements in recent seasons have included appearances at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Stuttgart Opera, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Teatro Municipal Santiago de Chile and the Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv. Future plans include Astolfo in Lucrezia Borgia and Un mandarino in Turandot at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich.
