Lothar Koenigs, who is a regular guest at leading opera houses all over the world including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Vienna, Munich, Dresden and Hamburg state operas and La Scala Milan, is appearing at Oper Frankfurt for the first time, conducting the first revival of the new production of Capriccio. Central to his repertoire, which ranges from Mozart to Berg, are works by Wagner, Strauss and Janáček. This season he conducts La clemenza di Tito at the Met and Tristan und Isolde in Copenhagen. He also returns to Welsh National Opera, where he was General Music Director from 2009 – 2016, for concert performances of Dallapiccola's Il prigioniero. Recent highlights have included Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in 2010 (and at the Proms), Tristan und Isolde at the 2012 Edinburgh International Festival and Moses und Aron at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London (2015). Other recent engagements have included Pique Dame and Wozzeck in Oslo, Ariadne auf Naxos at Covent Garden and the Bayerische Staatsoper, Elektra at Zurich Opera, Lulu at the Met, Salome in Stuttgart, Elektra, Daphne and Capriccio in Brussels, Der Kreidekreis in Lyon and Die tote Stadt in Warsaw. The many orchestras with whom he appears in concert include the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Dresden Philharmonic, the DSO and RSO Berlin, the Beethoven Orchester Bonn, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra and he has appeared at the Tanglewood Festival.
