Born in Naples, Florida, Alden Gatt joins Oper Frankfurt as Kapellmeister and Assistant to the General Music Director at the beginning of the 2023/24 season, during which he conducts performances of our new Le nozze di Figaro, the first ever performances in Frankfurt of Mozart’s Ascanio in Alba and a revival of Die Zauberflöte. This soloists’ coach and conductor has worked at many leading opera houses, including the Theater an der Wien. He is currently assistant conductor and pianist at Dallas Opera and pianist and coach at San Francisco Opera. During his time at the Staatsoper Berlin (Jan 2020 - July 2021) he worked with conductors including Daniel Barenboim, Simone Young, Antonio Pappano and Sir Simon Rattle. He has also accompanied singers including Isabel Leonard and Wallis Giunta at venues including the Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall, Greene Space, the Messiaen Festival and as part of the the 2019 Bach Festival in the Mendelssohn House in Leipzig. He recently appeared in recital in San Francisco with Nina Stemme: Swedish Lieder and Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder. During a three season stint at Oper Leipzig (2016 – 2019), as a soloists’ coach with conducting duties, he appeared as a soloist with the Gewandhausorchester. Alden Gatt gained his Bachelor of Music at the Eastman School of Music in 2010, where he studied piano with Barry Snyder. He has won many prizes, including first place at the 2015 Marilyn Horne Song Competition, the Southwest Florida Symphony Concerto Competition and Naples Music Club Competition, and 2nd prize at the New York State Music Teacher’s Association Piano Competition.
