Johannes Debus

Johannes Debus has been Music Director of the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto since 2009, where he recently conducted Le nozze di Figaro, Siegfried and the world premiere of Barbara Monk-Feldman's Pyramus and Thisbe. He opens Toronto's coming season with Handel's Ariodante and completes their new Ring cycle with Götterdämmerung. He makes his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in December 2016, with Salome. Johannes Debus was a Kapellmeister at Oper Frankfurt from 2001 – 2008, during which time operas he conducted included Die Ausflüge des Herrn Broucek/The Adventures of Mr Broucek, Rusalka, Adès’ The Tempest, a double bill of de Falla's Das kurze Leben/La vida breve and Ravel's Die spanische Stunde/L'Heure espagnole, Sciarrino's Macbeth and Berio's Un re in ascolto. Other recent engagements have included appearances at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Staatsoper in Berlin, English National Opera, Opéra Lyon, the Biennale in Venice, Suntory Summer Festival in Tokyo, the Festival di Spoleto and Bregenz Festival.
