Susanne Uhl was born Nordhausen and studied set and costume design at the University for the Fine Arts in Dresden. She has been working almost continually with the director Tilmann Köhler and set designer Karoly Risz since 2005. Their productions have included Der Kaufmann von Venedig / The Merchant of Venice and Odyssee (at the Staatsschauspiel in Dresden, 2009 & 2018), King Arthur (Semperoper Dresden, 2013), Mario und der Zauberer / Mario and the Magician (Staatsschauspiel Stuttgart, 2014), Macbeth (Deutsche Theater Berlin, 2015), Die Jungfrau von Orleans / The Maid of Orleans (Deutsche Schauspielhaus Hamburg, 2015), and Die schwarze Spinne / The Black Spider (Theater Basel, 2017). She has also worked with the director Christina Friedrich on plays in places including Göttingen, Lucerne und Zürich. Work with Peter Kleinert inlcuded Die Mutter / The Mother, Dantons Tod / Danton's Death and Der gute Mensch von Sezuan / The Nice Person from Sezuan at the Schaubühne in Berlin. Susanne Uhl designed the costumes for new productions of Handel's Xerxes (2017), Radamisto (2016) and Teseo (2013) at Oper Frankfurt.
