Katharina Schlipf is working at Oper Frankfurt for the first time, on the first new production of Aida for many years. She has worked regularly with the director Lydia Steier since 2011, most recently on Die Frau ohne Schatten at the Baden-Baden Festival and Die Zauberflöte at the Salzburg Festival. These were preceded by works including Handel’s Saul at the Staatstheater in Oldenburg, Franz von Suppè’s Fatinitza at the Staatstheater in Mainz, Ariadne auf Naxos at Theater Bern, Albert Herring in Oldenburg, Giulio Cesare at the Komische Oper Berlin and The Rake’s Progress at Theater Basel and they return to the Opéra National de Paris in 2024 for La vestale. She has also been working with the choreographer Demis Volpi since 2010, creating sets and costumes for projects including The Nutcracker at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, Salome based on Oscar Wilde and Krabat based on Otfried Preußler at Stuttgart Ballett and Volpi’s operatic production of Jommelli’s Fetonte at the Schwetzing Winter Festival and Death in Venice at the Staatsoper in Stuttgart. Death in Venice was nominated for »Best New Production« at the 2018 International Opera Awards. She is also a regular guest at Theater Bielefeld for productions by Nadja Loschky. She studied set and costume design with Martin Zehetgruber and Werner Pick at the State Academy for the Fine Arts in Stuttgart.
