Klaus Bruns has been designing costumes for plays and operas for nearly 30 years. Schreker's Der ferne Klang / The Distant Sound, his debut at Oper Frankfurt, was his fourth production with the director Damiano Michieletto. This season they stage the world premiere of Raskatov's Animal Farm in Amsterdam. He often designs costumes for Barrie Kosky, plays and operas, Christof Loy and Jetske Mijnssen at theatres including all three in Berlin, the Munich and Hamburg state operas, Zürich Opera, the Theater an der Wien, Nationale Opera Amsterdam, Opera Vlaanderen, Oper Leipzig, the Staatstheater in Nürnberg, Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro and Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania. Future plans include his debuts at the Opéra National de Paris, Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, Teatro Real in Madrid, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, in Geneva, Strasbourg and the Salzburg Festival and he returns to Amsterdam and Munich. He has worked on plays directed by Karin Henkel for many years, which have been seen in Zürich, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Cologne, Leipzig, Hannover, Düsseldorf, Graz, Bochum, the Residenztheater and Kammerspiel in Munich, the Thalia-Theater and Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, the Deutschen Theater Berlin and Burgtheater in Vienna. He was voted Costume Designer of the Year by Opernwelt magazine in 2018.
