Barbara Ehnes, one of the most formative set designers around, made her debut at Oper Frankfurt with this Oedipus Rex / Iolanta double bill. She works regularly with the director Stefan Pucher. Their productions of Ein Volksfeind / Public Enemy Number One, Der Sturm / The Tempest, Othello and Homo Faber were invited to the Theatertreffen in Berlin (a great honour). She works at leading theatres and opera houses including the Kammerspiele in Munich, the Deutsche Theater Berlin, Staatsoper Berlin, Thalia Theater in Hamburg, Schauspiel & Opera Zurich, Theater Basel and the Nationale Opera Amsterdam with directors including Lydia Steier, Stefan Bachmann, Sebastian Baumgarten, Calixto Bieito, Schorsch Kamerun, Lars-Ole Walburg, Jossi Wieler / Sergio Morabito and the choreographer Meg Stuart. She has created installations in public places including the HAU in Berlin, the Festwochen in Vienna and Theater der Welt in Mannheim. She has been a professor for set design at the University for the Fine Arts in Dresden since 2011. She and Chris Kondek won the 2012 DER FAUST theatre prize. She studied art in Amsterdam and Hamburg, set design with Wilfried Minks and Marina Abramović at the University for the Fine Arts in Hamburg, where she also studied theatre and literature.
