Knut Gminder directs works for the stage and makes films. His films have included sensitive documentaries (Vom Kinderkriegen / Children of War, NDR 1999) and works for the big screen (Das Vermächtnis der Cherusker / The Cherusker's Legacy, NDR 2004). In theatre he is best known for Varieté Shows, in cities including Berlin, Munich, Hannover, Stuttgart, Essen, Mannheim, Basel, Vienna and Frankfurt, most recently the Harald Wohlfahrt Palazzo in the 2008/09 season. His show Sommerfrische / The Freshness of Summer (2002) is regarded as one of the groundbreaking works for contemporary Varieté and the production Lichtgestalten / Light Figures, recently performed in 2016 at the GOP Varieté Theater in Bremen, is one of the most successful German Varieté Shows there has ever been. Knut Gminder has also worked on shows by comedians including Timo Wopp. He directed the first work he also wrote for the stage, a musical about the clairvoyant Hanussen, in Berlin in the summer of 2016.
