Bibi Abel's back at Oper Frankfurt, where recent productions for the company were Szymanowski's King Roger, a very successful, visually stunning, world premiere of Der Mieter / The Tenant, Weinberg'sThe (female) Passenger, Das Rheingold,  Die Walküre, Adriana Lecouvreur, Britten's Paul Bunyan, Ezio, Tosca, Radamisto, Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Fauré's only opera Pénélope and Rossini's  Bianca e Falliero, for this new production of Tchaikovsky's Mazeppa. She also worked on a Bartók Bluebeard's Castle / Miraculous Mandarin double bill at Theater Hagen, Sonnambula at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Ermione at the Rossini Opera Festival, Der Ring des Nibelungen (Dir: Brigitte Fassbaender) at the Tirol Festival in Erl and, with Keith Warner, A Dream Game at Oper Halle. Other theatres where she works include those in Graz, Zurich, Düsseldorf, Essen, the Theater an der Wien, Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich for productions directed by David Bösch, Heike M. Götze, Andreas Kriegenburg, Jan Bosse, Anselm Weber, Tilmann Köhler, Vera Nemirova and David Alden, and others. She and the director Johannes Erath, with whom she stages Manon Lescaut at the Staatsoper Berlin during the 2026/27 season, work together closely, most recently on Wagner's Lohengrin at the Baden-Baden Festival, Berlioz’ Les Troyens and Gounod's Faust at Cologne Opera and La Scala Milan, Kurtág's Fin de partie at the Staatsoper in Berlin, Die Csárdásfürstin at the Volksoper in Vienna and Elektra in Tokyo. She studied Visual Arts at the Werkkunstschule in Cologne and trained as a multimedia artist.
