Ursula Kudrna was born in Vienna, where she studied at the Academy for Fine Arts, and is working at Oper Frankfurt for the first time, on this new production of Mozart's Mitridate, Re di Ponto. She was voted »Costume Designer of the Year 2019« for her work on Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at the Salzburg Festival and the world premiere of Beat Furrer's Violet Snow (directed by Claus Guth) at Staatsoper in Berlin by critics from Opernwelt magazine. Other Claus Guth productions included Salome at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, The Makropoulos Case at the Staatsoper in Berlin, Turandot at the Vienna State Opera, Samson at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and Die Liebe der Danae at the Bayerische Staatsoper. She has designed costumes for companies including the Semperoper in Dresden, the Komische and Deutsche opers in Berlin, La Scala Milan, Cologne Opera, the Theater an der Wien, Wiener Festwochen, the Salzburg Easter Festival, Zurich Opera, the Berlin Ensemble, Maxim Gorki Theater and Volksbühne in Berlin and in Bremen, Darmstadt, Mainz and Weimar. She works often with directors including Philipp Stölzl and Lydia Steier on, amongst others, Zauberflöte, Stockhausen's Donnerstag aus Licht (»World Premiere of the Year 2016«, Opernwelt) at Theater Basel. She worked regularly with Jürgen Flimm (on operas including Le nozze di Figaro, Manon Lescaut, Rossinis Otello, Salvatore Sciarrino's Ti vedo, ti sento, mi perdo and Schumann's Scenes from Goethe's Faust).
