Theresa Wilson
costume designer
The German / Canadian costume designer Theresa Wilson worked at Oper Frankfurt for the first time on this new production of Elektra. This fashion and textile designer assisted whilst training at theatres including the Vienna and Berlin state operas; working with people including Otto Schenk, Claus Guth (The Turn of the Screw, costumes: Christian Schmidt) and Michael Thalheimer (Der Freischütz, costumes: Katrin Lea Tag). Other assisting work took her to the Theater an der Wien, Amsterdam and Paris. After gaining her masters she worked for a year at the Friedrichstadt Palast in Berlin assisting Jean Paul Gaultier on The One before spending two years at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, where she taught at Watkins College of Art and worked as a costume designer at Nashville Opera. Back in Germany she was engaged by Theater Freiburg while working as a free-lance costume designer. Her work in 2022 was seen in Detlef Heusinger’s video opera Ode. Im Lauf der Zeit / In the Course of Time at the Schlosslicht Festival in Karlsruhe, Die Zeitreisemaschine / The Time Machine at the Bregenz Festival and Eugene Onegin at Theater Bielefeld. She has worked closely with Romeo Castellucci, creating costumes for Salome (2018), Don Giovanni (2021) and a Bluebeard’s Castle / De temporum fine comoedia double bill (2022) at the Salzburg Festival, Lacrime di Eros in Amsterdam (2020/21) and Georg Friedrich Haas’ Koma / Coma (co-production Bayerische Staatsoper, Volkstheater and Kammerspiele Munich; premiere (originally planned for 2022) 2024.
