After a successful career as a dancer in various ensembles Maxine Braham is now a much sought-after choreographer and director for dance, opera and plays. Recent productions have been seen at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Mariinski in St. Petersburg and Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London. She has enjoyed a close working relationship with the director David Alden for many years, on projects including this production of Rossini's La gazza ladraLohengrin at Covent Garden in London, an Olivier Award winning Jenůfa, Lucia di Lammermoor and Otello at English National Opera in London (co-production with Madrid and Stockholm) and three early Verdi operas: La battaglia di Legnano, I due Foscari und I lombardi alla prima crociata for Hamburg State Opera. They also worked together on Peter Grimes at English National Opera, at Opera Vlaanderen Antwerp / Ghent and the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Katja Kabanová and Billy Budd  at English National Opera and Un ballo in maschera at the Met in New York. She also works with the directors Tim Albery (including Tannhäuser; ROH),  Daniel Slater (The Cunning Little Vixen; Garsington Opera) and Yoshi Oida (Britten's War Requiem, Opéra de Lyon) and worked as a choreographer for the LIFETheater Festival in Lithuania, the Belfast International Festival and the opening ceremony of a Formula 1 Grand Prix in Bahrain. Maxine Braham's Shadows of Gobustan is a recent addition to the repertoire at the National Ballet in Azerbaijan.
