When she was 14 Hedwig Matros-Büsing was fascinated by the huge instrument at the back of the school orchestra. She immediately recognised what the essence of a double bass was ‒ powerful, lyric, substantial and indispensable – and started to learn it. Her lessons bore fruit. Taking part in national and regional youth orchestras awakened the desire to find out everything about music and become a professional musician. Her studies at the University for Music and the Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main, with Prof. Günter Klaus, prepared her for this and she joined the Frankfurt Opern- und Museumsorchester in 1989. Chamber music with the Mutare Ensemble and colleagues from the orchestra, concerts and recordings with the Frankfurt Double Bass, teaching the »young« and »grown up« and coaching youth orchestras round off her career. She teaches at the University for Music and the Performing Arts in Frankfurt and loves spending time in the world of early music. Her motto: »Long live the arts and a sense of community!«
