Another wonderful series of recitals in the Holzfoyer, to complement those on the main stage - a chance to enjoy members of our wonderful Ensemble and Opera Studio in recital before their careers skyrocket!
This recital dips into the world of early 20th century Jewish Viennese composers, concentrating on works by Mahler, Schreker, Zemlinsky, Korngold and Schönberg. They were persecuted by the national socialists as representatives of »degenerate music«, banned and banished, because avant-garde, Jewish and anything that was considered »non-German« music was systematically eliminated, forcing many leading artists to emigrate. Liviu Holender and Lukas Rommelspacher's programme reminds us of the culture lost in those dreadful times. A journey through »outlawed« music, reminding us of this loss, while celebrating musical creativity.
