Schubert’s Winterreise is one of the most complex and intense works for any singer. Johannes Martin Kränzle, an exceptional artist who alway strives for authenticity, imbues it with experiences and emotions a nearly forty year career brings with it. He and Hildo Dumno, his accompanist of many years, recorded this Lieder cycle again in 2025 (on Hänssler). Now he’s back to embody a soul’s mental and physical journey on the stage, where he sang many roles as a long-standing member of the Ensemble. His extraordinary career began in Frankfurt, taking him to leading opera houses and concert halls around the world. It’s wonderful to have the chance of hearing him here again.
