Ruth Stofer is back at Oper Frankfurt, where she worked for the first time in 2020/21 on an online streamed evening of staged Tchaikovsky Lieder: Nur wer die Sehnsucht kennt, for this new production of Ligeti’s Le Grand Macabre. She studied art and media at Zurich’s University of Arts and, after achieving her masters, started working as a video technician at the Schauspielhaus in Zürich, where she designed videos for works including Ruedi Häusermann’s Vielzahl leiser Pfiffe / Lots of Quiet Whistles. She’s been freelance since 2016, working regularly with Jan Bosse, Eva-Maria Höckmayr, Chris Kondek, Volker Lösch, Ruedi Häusermann, Frank Hilbrich, Karin Henkel and doubelucky productions, at venues including the Kammerspiel in Munich, Opera Zürich, Theater Basel, Theater Bremen, the Opéra national de Lorraine, Oper Bonn, the Mousonturm in Frankfurt, Schauspiel Leipzig, the Deutsche Schauspielhaus Hamburg and Schauspielhaus Zürich. Future projects include Lohengrin directed by Christof Loy at De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam. In tandem with her work for the theatre Ruth Stofer never stops developing her own artistic work, often with her twin sister Rebecca - the stofer&stofer duo. In 2017 they created the multi-media performance Guts Reloaded with Veronica Rodriguez, which toured in New York, Chicago nd Detroit. Candied Dreams followed in 2022 in Chicago and Lucerne. The sisters have taken part in many exhibitions at home and abroad and won commissions and studio scholarships in Paris and Chicago.
