Ashley Martin-Davis
Set Designer
British born Ashley Martin-Davis is internationally sought-after as a set and costume designer. He returns to Oper Frankfurt later this season, where he worked for the first time on this wonderful production of Peter Grimes, directed by Keith Warner, which was followed by Eötvös' Tri sestry / Three Sisters, for Handel's Triumph of Time and Truth directed by Katharina Kastening. He and Warner often work together, most recently on Barber's Vanessa in Glyndebourne, the world premiere of André Tchaikowsky's The Merchant of Venice in Bregenz, Pelléas et Mélisande at the Royal Opera in Stockholm and The Rape of Lucretia, Giulio Cesare in Egitto and the world premiere of Jost's Egmont at the Theater an der Wien. He also designed sets for Macbeth, Falstaff and Otello at the Royal Opera in Copenhagen, A Night in Venice at the Opéra de Lyon, costumes for A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Opera North in Leeds and sets and costumes for Roméo et Juliette at Santa Fe Opera and the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and L’elisir d’amore at Opera Philadelphia. Other directors with whom he has worked have included Stephen Lawless and Benedict Andrews. He created a new Francesca da Rimini at the Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg with Nicola Raab. Ashley Martin-Davis studied at the Central School of Art and Design and renowned Motley Theatre Design School in London.
