The Swiss set and costume designer Etienne Pluss is back at Oper Frankfurt for this new production of Berg's Lulu directed by Nadja Loschky, with whom he has worked on, amongst others, Weinberg's The (female) Passenger (co-production between Oper Graz and the Staatstheater in Mainz), Hamlet at the Komische Oper Berlin, Alice in Wonderland at Zurich Opera and last season's new Giulio Cesare in Egitto at Oper Frankfurt. He works regularly with Claus Guth too on works including La bohème at the Opéra national de Paris, Don Carlo at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Salome at the Bolschoi in Moscow and the Met in New York, Dusapin's Il viaggio, Dante and Rameau‘s Samson at the Festival d‘Aix-en-Provence, Haas‘ Bluthaus at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and Turandot at the Vienna State Opera. He teamed up with Katharina Thoma at Oper Frankfurt, on wonderful productions including Offenbach's The Bandits and Flotow's Martha (get the CD - OehmsClassics). He also staged La Rondine at Zurich Opera and Il trittico at the Salzburg Festival with Christof Loy and Spontini's La vestale at the Opéra national de Paris with Lydia Steyer. In recent years he has worked at places including Oper Leipzig, Theater Basel, the Opéra de Lyon, Oper Göteborg and the Schauspiel houses in Vienna (Burgtheater, Theater in der Josefstadt), Leipzig, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Oslo and at the Berlin Ensemble, with directors including Adriana Altaras, Sabrina Hölzer, Enrico Lübbe, Patrick Schlösser, Jetske Mijnssen, Richard Brunel, Evgeny Titov, George Tabori and Philip Tiedemann. His set for Beat Furrer's Violet Snow (dir: Claus Guth) at the Staatsoper in Berlin won a 2019 Deutschen Theaterpreis: DER FAUST. Etienne Pluss also designs stages for fashion shows in Milan and Berlin. He ran an art gallery in Geneva before studying set design at the University for Arts in Berlin.
