Dr. Melanie Amann

Dr. Melanie Amann studied law in Trier, Aix-en-Provence, and Berlin, gaining her doctorate from the LMU in Munich where she spent 2003 & 2004 at the German School of Journalism. After working as an editor at Financial Times Germany, the Frankfurter Allgemeine and Frankfurter Allgemeine Sunday newspapers she moved to SPIEGEL magazine in Berlin in 2013. She wrote a book about the AfD, based on her research and revelations, Angst für Deutschland – Die Wahrheit über die AfD (Fear for Germany – The Truth About the AfD). She headed SPIEGEL's head office from February 2019 and was a member of SPIEGEL's editorial board until August 2025. She was appointed editor-in-chief of digital media at Funke Zentralredaktion in January 2026.
