Ursula Renzenbrink was born in Hamburg in 1952 where she studied set design with Wilfried Minks. After two years working as an assistant at the Deutsche Schauspielhaus in Hamburg she designed costumes for many well known directors, including Luk Perceval at places including the Berlin and Hannover state operas. She started collaborating with Christof Loy in 2008. Their productions in Frankfurt included a wonderful staging of Rimsky-Korsakov's The Night before Christmas (»Performance of the Year 2022«, Opernwelt), Norma, Scartazzini's Der Sandmann and Don Giovanni. Other joint projects included Orfeo ed Euridice at the 2023 Salzburg Festival, Tannhäuser at the Nationale Opera Amsterdam, Ariodante at the Witsun Salzburg Festival, Daphne at Theater Basel and the Hamburg State Opera, Khowanshchina in Amsterdam, Alceste in Aix-en-Provence and the Vienna State Opera, Alcina at Zurich Opera, Rusalka at the Teatro Real in Madrid, Luisa Miller in Glyndebourne and Guercoeur at the Opéra National du Rhin. Now she's back in Frankfurt for the new production of Turandot here for many years, directed by Andrea Breth, for whom she recently designed costumes for Madama Butterfly at the Festival Aix-en-Provence and Opéra de Lyon and Fauré's Pénélope at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich.
