Álvaro Corral Matute
Interim Chorus Master & Children's Chorus Master
Álvaro Corral Matute started assisting the Chorus Master and leading the Children's Chorus at Oper Frankfurt in the 2021/2022 season, during which he trained the chorus (»Chorus of the Year« Opernwelt magazine 2021/22) and children's chorus for revivals of Cosi fan tutte, Król Roger and Il trittico and a new production of Madame Butterfly, which were followed by many revivals including Tosca, Hänsel und Gretel, Manon Lescaut, Werther, Don Giovanni and The Cunning Little Vixen and last season's new productions of Zemlinsky's George the Dreamer and Halévys La Juive. He also prepared the chorus and children's chorus for the first performances in Frankfurt of two of Britten's Church Parables: The Prodigal Son and The Burning Fiery Furnace. Before coming to Frankfurt he was a chorus and soloists' coach at Theater Bonn and Atlanta Opera, where he was a member of their Studio Programme. Other engagements have taken this Spanish born musician to places including France, Italy, Spain and the USA. He has worked with artists including Maestro Gary Wedow and the baritone Paolo Gavanelli, played for masterclasses held by Barbara Frittoli, Ramón Vargas and Lawrence Brownlee and led family concerts with the Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa. Álvaro Corral Matute studied piano, orchestra management and coaching at leading music institutions including the Royal College of Music (GB), Musikene (Spanien), the Manhattan School of Music and Jacobs School of Music (USA) with Maciej Pikulski, Arturo Tamayo, Arthur Fagen and David Neely. He was awarded a full scholarship from the Spanish CaixaBank Foundation for his masters degree at Jacobs School of Music.
