Tatjana Gürbaca is back at Oper Frankfurt, where she made her debut with Dallapiccola's Ulisse, for this new production of Halévy's La Juive. Born in Berlin, she studied direction at the Hanns Eisler University for Music in her home town and won the 2000 »Ring Award« in Graz. The spectrum of her productions ranges from the baroque (Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas in Baden-Baden) to contemporary, including Dallapiccola’s Il prigioniero (Volksoper in Vienna) and the world premiere of Philippe Hersant’s Le moine noir at Oper Leipzig. She directed a Tchaikovsky cycle at Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp (Mazeppa, Eugene Onegin & The Enchantress) and was voted Director of the Year 2013 by »Opernwelt« magazine for her Parsifal in Antwerp. She was Opera Director at the Staatstheater in Mainz from 2011 – 2014. She works at leading opera houses around the world, most recently at the Vienna State Opera, the Opéra de Lyon, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam, the National Opera in Prague, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Staatsoper in Hannover and Aalto Theater in Essen.  Other important projects have taken her to the Deutsch Oper Berlin, Cologne Opera, Theater Bremen and Theater an der Wien, where a three part Ring project emerged. She works closely with Zurich Opera, on works including Lucia di Lammermoor, Werther, Die Zauberflöte, Aida, Rigoletto and Le Grand Macabre and where she returns next season for the world premiere of Beat Furrer's Das große Feuer.
