Slovenian baritone Domen Križaj, who joined Oper Frankfurt's ensemble in 2020/21, enjoyed great success last season with the title roles in new productions of Henze's The Prince of Homburg, Magnard's Guercoeur & Verdi's Macbeth and Gorjančikov in Janáček's From the House of the Dead. During the 2025/26 season you can hear him again as Lescaut in Manon Lescaut, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly and the title roles in Verdi's Macbeth and Weill's The Tsar wants his Photograph Taken. Since making his debut in Frankfurt, as Albert in Werther in 2020, he's been thrilling audiences with roles including Rodrigo (Don Carlo), Wolfram von Eschenbach, Count Almaviva & Papageno in new productions of Tannhäuser, Le nozze di Figaro Die Zauberflöte, Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte), the Count (Strauss' Capriccio) and Eugene Onegin. Guest engagements have included Oreste (Iphigénie en Tauride) and Alfio (Cavalleria rusticana) in Baden-Baden, Sharpless at the 2023 Bregenz Festival, Count Luna (Il trovatore) and Lescaut at Slovenia's National Theatre in Ljubljana, Rodrigo at the Slovania's National Theatre in Maribor and the Herald and title role in new productions of Lohengrin and Chausson's King Arthur at the Tirol Festival in Erl. Concert work has included appearances with the SWR Symphony Orchestra, Camerata Salzburg, the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble and Vienna Philharmonic. This former member of Theater Basel's Opera Studio won prizes at competitions including the 2019 Bertelsmann Neue Stimmen International Singing Competition in Gütersloh. Domen Križaj studied music and medicine in Ljubljana.
