The Slovenian baritone Domen Križaj joined the Ensemble at Oper Frankfurt in 2020/21.  During the 2024/25 season he sings the title roles in new productions of Henze's The Prince of Homburg, Magnard's Guercoeur and Verdi's Macbeth and Gorjančikov in Janáček's From the House of the Dead. Since making his debut in Frankfurt, as Albert in Werther in 2020, he has thrilled audiences with roles including Rodrigo (Don Carlo), Wolfram von Eschenbach (Tannhäuser), Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte), the Count (Strauss' Capriccio), the title role in Weill's The Tsar has his Photograph Taken, Lescaut (Manon Lescaut) and Eugene Onegin. He recently sang Oreste in Gluck's Iphigénie en Tauride at the Festspielhaus in Baden-Baden, where he has sung Alfio (Cavalleria rusticana). The role of Sharpless (Madame Butterfly), which he sang for the first time in Frankfurt in 2021/22, took him to the 2023 Bregenz Festival.  Other guest engagements have included Rodrigo at Slovenia's National Theatre in Maribor, and the Herald and title role in new productions of Lohengrin and Chausson's King Arthur at the Tirol Festival in Erl. Concert work has included appearances with orchestras including the SWR Symphony Orchestra, Camerata Salzburg, the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble and Vienna Philharmonic. This former member of Theater Basel's Opera Studio won prizes at many competitions, including 2nd prize at the 2019 Bertelsmann Neue Stimmen International Singing Competition in Gütersloh. Domen Križaj studied music and medicine in Ljubljana.
