Tobias Schabel is making his debut at Oper Frankfurt singing Fritz Kothner in this performance of Meistersinger.  He joined the ensemble at Theater Bonn in 2019/20, where he can be heard singing Alaskawolfjoe in The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny and Ritter Sinbrand von Fraß in Der singende Teufel / The Singing Devil. His roles for the company have included Baron Ochs (Der Rosenkavalier), Mozart's Figaro, Rocco (Fidelio), Swimming Pool Attendant in Mauricio Kagel's Staatstheater, Giove & Silvano in La Calisto, Filippo (Don Carlo), Méphistophélès (La damnation de Faust) and Saldorf in Feldlager in Schlesien. He sang in Berg's Wozzeck at the Salzburg Festival (2017) and Bayerische Staatsoper (2020). After time spent under contract at the Theater in Lucerne, Nationaltheater in Mannheim, Staatstheater in Mainz and Berlin Staatsoper Unter den Linden he joined the ensemble at  the Staatsoper in Hannover for the 2015/16 season, where roles included the Watersprite (Rusalka), Kaspar (Der Freischütz), Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Ramfis (Aida), König Marke (Tristan und Isolde), Méphistophélès and Lodovico Nardi (Die Gezeichneten). He also appeared at the Staatsoper in Berlin singing the Speaker (Die Zauberflöte), Daland (Der fliegende Holländer), Kaspar, the König (Aida), Skuratov (Die Zarenbraut / The Tsar's Bride), – a production he took part in when he made his debut at La Scala Milan - Trinity Moses (The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny), Don Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia) and Biterolf in Tannhäuser. He sang Klingsor (Parsifal) at the Staatsoper in Stuttgart and Zurich Opera. Tobias Schabel has also appeared several times at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, where he made his debut with Fafner (Das Rheingold) and recently sang Hobson (Peter Grimes) and took part in a new production of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. Other recent engagements have included Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte) at Theater Basel, Titurel in Parsifal at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and he is a regular guest at the Nationaltheater in Mannheim.
