Istvan Balota's back in Frankfurt, where he sang a Servant in Capriccio, an Apprentice in a new Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, a Dubious Individual in Schreker'sThe Elusive Sound, a Conspirator in Weill's The Tsar wants his Photograph Taken, a Noble from Brabant in Lohengrin and an Orderly in the new production of Henze's The Prince of Homburg earlier this season to sing the Shadow of a Poet in this new production of Magnard's Guercœur, and a Prisoner / Kedril / Actor in Janáček's From the House of the Dead. He studied at the National University of Education in Kiev before coming to further his training in Germany on a scholarship from Dr. Hoch’s Conservatoire's Patronatsverein (patrons). He graduated from the Musikakademie in Wiesbaden in 2018 and has taken part in masterclasses held by Rudolf Piernay, Thomas Heyer and Noelle Turner. He appeared in concerts and opera productions, including Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the Staatstheater in Wiesbaden, whilst still a student. He is passionate about choral singing and is a member of many choirs, some of which he also conducts.
