Lawrence Foster was born in America and is back at Oper Frankfurt, where he worked for the first time in 2012/13 on a new production of Khovanshchina, to conduct this wonderful staging of Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Night before Christmas. He was General Music Director of the Opéra de Marseille, where he is still a regular guest. Other posts included being Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra and Chief Conductor of the Gulbenkian Orchestra. His many guest engagements over the years have included concerts with the New Japan Philharmonic, the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo, Konzerthaus Orchester Berlin and Tirol Festival in Erl’s orchestra. Future plans include concerts with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Bruckner Orchester Linz. Internationally sought-after for operatic work, productions included Troilus and Cressida at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London (available on CD EMI), Berg’s Lulu at Houston Grand Opera, Verdi’s Otello at Los Angeles Opera, Enescu’s Oedipe at the Deutsche Oper Berlin (available on CD EMI) and West Side Story at the Hamburg State Opera. He was also engaged by the Enescu Festival in Bucharest for Hindemith’s Mathis der Maler and the Savonlinna Opera Festival for La Traviata.
