Christoph Gedschold, who was born in Magdeburg, is back at Oper Frankfurt for this, last, revival of Ariadne auf Naxos. He appeared with the company for the first time conducting of Weinberg's Die Passagierin on tour to the Festwochen in Vienna, a production he also led at the Semperoper in Dresden – he conducted the first performances in Germany of this work at the Staatstheater in Karlsruhe, where he was first Kapellmeister from 2009-2015. Christoph Gedschold has been Kapellmeister at Oper Leipzig since 2015, where he has built up a broad and varied repertoire, including Der Freischütz, Rigoletto, La traviata, La Bohème, Tosca, Rusalka, Bluebeard's Castle and West Side Story, and where he conducts a new production of Die verkaufte Braut / The Bartered Bride this season. He will be appearing with the Staatskapelle Dresden and MDR Symphony Orchestra for the first time and makes his debut at Cologne Opera, with a new production of Rusalka. He is a regular guest at the Hamburg State Opera where he follows up Simon Boccanegra, La Bohème, Eugene Onegin and Katja Kabanowa soon with Manon Lescaut. He also works regularly at the Semperoper in Dresden, where he returns for Die Zauberflöte. He has worked at places including Nürnberg, Basel, and Luzern, the Bregenz and Lucerne festivals, and with orchestras including the Orchestre Philharmonique de Montréal, the New Japan Philharmonic, Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz and the Robert-Schumann-Philharmonie in Chemnitz.
