The French conductor Sylvain Cambreling is highly respected all over the world for his gripping and richly inventive interpretations and innovative programming. He has been Chief Conductor of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra since 2018/19. He shaped and influenced Oper Frankfurt from 1993 – 1997 as Artistic Intendant and General Music Director, which was voted »Opera House of the Year« for the first time in 1995. He was voted »Conductor of the Year« too. The Staatsoper in Stuttgart won the title of »Opera House of the Year« while he was General Music Director from 2012 - 2018. He appears regularly with leading orchestras including the Vienna, Berlin and Munich philharmonics, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Oslo Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic and San Francisco Symphony and at the Salzburg Festival and was First Guest Conductor of Klangforum Wien (1997-2018). He was Chief Conductor of the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra from 2010 – 2019 and SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden and Freiburg from 1999 - 2011, during which time he recorded Messiaen’s orchestral works which one him many prizes. Sylvain Cambreling was awarded the Bundesverdienstkreuz (order of merit cross for services to Germany) in 2012.
